Craftsman Hand Made Turned Wooden Platters

The difference between a platter and a bowl is essentially that a platter is shallower. Wooden platters also often have a wide rim, as do most of the examples shown on this page.

Uses for your platter

The wide rim offers an chance for decoration in the form of carving, texturing and colouring. Platters are the ideal form for decorative or commemorative pieces. Wooden platters are also suitable for use as serving dishes, shallow fruit bowls or to display a collection of keepsakes. Platters can be displayed horizontally or vertically if just for decoration. Platters are a great way to show off an exceptional piece of wood. Whether its a burr or just a nice figured piece.

Engraving options

Paul is also able to engrave a message of your choice on the platter. Names and dates for weddings or anniversaries or anything else you want to commit to writing on wood. Paul can offer hand carved lettering or laser engraved text. The former is much more time consuming (and as a result, more expensive) and probably better suited to shorter amounts of text. As the hand cut lettering takes longer to do, it would be advisable to order well in advance to ensure completion in time for your event. Laser engraving offers a wide range of fonts and sizes. It is more economical than the hand carved lettering but both have their place.

Stands

If you want to complete the display, custom made wooden stands are also available to complement the platter. Different designs for stands are available to order. Paul is happy to discuss options to suit your requirements.
