Woodturning UK - "Near Edge Of Space III" - Steve Sinner USA
"NEAR EDGE OF SPACE III"

Named the "Near Edge Of Space" because the changing colour effect (blue to black) of the vessel is what is said to be seen by Astronauts as they leave the Earths atmosphere.

THE MATERIAL
This excellent deep hollowed vessel is in fiddle back maple, a material virtually impossible to find here in the UK, the finish on Near Edge is what Steve refers to as "double dyed", a method of applying one colour, gently sanding to cut back into the colour and then applying the second colour over the top.

THE RIM
The rim is finished with 23k gold leaf applied in two layers for durability. The first layer being coated and the second left to the elements and looking very natural.

THE DIMENSIONS
"Near Edge Of Space III" is, as is most of Steve's work, very large, measuring a majestic 20 7/8" high (530mm)  by 10 1/8" in diameter (258mm).
