"BLUE BOY"
Of all Steve's work, this one is my
current favourite and was completed in July 2002. Easy in this case
to see where the name comes from. Although from the photograph
there appears to be a number of different blues it is only a single
colour, the other shades coming from the timber.
THE MATERIAL
Once again this excellent deep hollowed vessel is turned from
beautifully marked fiddle back maple, dyed in this case with acrylic
inks to achieve this incredible colour variation.
THE RIM
The rim is
finished with 21k moon gold leaf applied in two layers for durability.
The first layer being coated and the second left to the elements and
looking very natural.
THE DIMENSIONS
"Blue Boy" is, as
most of Steve's work, very large, measuring 20 7/8" high
(530mm) by 10 1/4" in diameter (261mm).
